Purpose: To further develop your skills in college-level research and writing beyond those used
in essay #3.
****Essay Prompt:
Make an argument about how your research materials deepen your understanding of the issues
raised in your chosen text. As in paper #3, you’ll be using your research sources as a “lens”
through which to analyze your chosen literary text. You must connect your research to specific
moments in the literary text. Be sure to explain to your reader both what your research says and
how it impacts your reading of your piece of literature.
Readings:
• A minimum of six research sources; at least three of them must be scholarly.
• Select ONE of the following:
— Quinonez, Bodega Dreams (178-183)?
— Alexie, “Superman and Me” (220-222)
— Rodriguez, “The Chinese in All of Us” (242-248)?
